Over the dinner table my friend Michelle announced that she would attempt to give up Starbucks for a month. An amazing feat for a woman that announces her daily arrival at Starbucks on Facebook. A daily treat for her, and a great check-in for Facebook friends. When she announced this change for better health, the wheels in my head started to turn.
That hot pink Tupperware pitcher, behind the "sports drinks" and soda... is my tiny stash of iced tea. |
Diet soda makes you fat?? Well, that explains a lot. Good bye Diet Mtn Dew, from now on I'll be washing my down M&Ms with tea. Unsweet tea.
ReplyDeleteYou won't find any of that powdered stuff when you visit Atlanta. Just make sure to stress the "un" when you order "unsweet tea". One accidental sip of the syrupy stuff they serve in the South could end you up in a dialysis recliner next to Paula Deen.
Damn. And to think I drink at least 88 oz of Coke Zero a day....
ReplyDeleteMmmmmm, Coke Zero. I could go for a tall one right now.
DeleteI gave up my one 20 oz bottle of Dr. Pepper a day, 10 years ago this month. I switched to water.
ReplyDeleteYes, I had a headache for 2 weeks (i meant to give up sugar, not caffeine), but I also ended up losing 13 lbs in about a three week period.
Yes, now and again (still!) I will crave a soda, but haven't gone back. And about 2x per week, I do have unsweetened tea when going out to lunch w my partner.
After a few weeks you won't miss the soda much at all.
Switch to water! It really is better for you.
ReplyDeleteI have replaced almost ALL of my soda consumption with water and MIO. I like the flavors. It's like koolaid in a squirt... but with fewer calories.
